About Volánbusz Transport Company
The Volánbusz Transport Company Ltd. is a Budapest based, 100% state owned public transport provider and operator with 75 years of past and with a fleet numbering close to a thousand. It is the biggest of the Hungarian coach companies, and in many respects the leader of the branch.
The company was founded as MAVART in 1927 and had a fleet of only 30 buses; today its fleet is made up of almost 1000 buses.
The main activity of Volánbusz is scheduled public transport. As the location of the headquarters is in the capital, Volánbusz operates most of the international and domestic coaches from Budapest, and also the regional lines and the ones traversing the agglomeration. There are coaches to 14 different countries (Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Croatia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Montenegro, Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, ) from Népliget coach station, but our partners also provide transport to other countries and cities (Sofia, Madrid, Zurich, Nice) not included in the above list.
Transfers are available for example to Vilnius from Vienna, to Kobenhavn from Berlin and to Lyon from Strassbourg.

Volánbusz operates 500 domestic distance coaches to 100 cities of the country daily, creating a direct link between 17 counties and the most important regions and resorts of the country and Budapest. During the day there are coaches in every hour or more often in the direction of Eger, Salgótarján, Gyöngyös, Jászberény, Kecskemét, Székesfehérvár, Veszprém, Tatabánya and Győr, many lines go to the Mátra, the great plain, lake Balaton or other destinations.
In Pest county Volánbusz provides transport between 170 cities and towns and Budapest or the regional centers with 6500 trips per day. In certain lines of the agglomeration, like Érd, Diósd, Fót, Dunakeszi, Zsámbék, Páty és Perbál, Vecsés, Maglód, Ecser, Gödöll, Veresegyház and from other towns coaches go every 5-10 minutes, but a maximum of 20 minutes during peak hours, but we also provide ample service for the regional centers elsewhere.
Volánbusz is the sole public transport provider for several of Pest county's towns, especially those far from the regional centers, carrying passengers to daily work or school and to the most important facilities.
In 6 towns like Gödöllő, Vác, Szentendre, and Érd Volánbusz also performs inner-city coach transport on several lines, so-called local transport, according to local fees. In addition to the daily 1000 local lines the other coaches traversing the towns can be used for local travel as well.
The scheduled service is in accordance with public demand. The comments and wishes of the passengers are implemented as much as possible if they are not contrary to the profitability of the company.
Volánbusz deems contact and co-operation with the other transport operators is especially important in the transport operations between counties. Considerations must be taken of not only the railways but other operators as well.
During the design of lines and schedules Volánbusz has to co-operate with the local governments, road authorities and other institutions. Change in the existing operations can only take place with the consent of these authorities.
Increasingly the quality of service receives high priority, all means are efforted to provide reliable, well-defined timetables, and keeping of these under worsening road situations.

In the domestic and international distance coaches a digital pre-purchase and seat-reservation system operates, and advances are made for the lines in the agglomeration. We continuously improve the quality of our information booklets and brochures together with the bus stop information system.
The company has been member of the Brussel based Eurolines Organization since 1993. Eurolines is an organisation of the European international coach operators that has as goal to create a Paneuropean coach network with elaborated schedules, universal fare conditions and mutually approved tickets so the passengers may enjoy guaranteed quality and a universally measured service.
Volánbusz has been in close contact with the travel industry. The domestic smaller and bigger travel agencies can rent buses of high quality ocassionally or in a contigent from our travel office. The buses are available for rent, and can be hired for occasions.
Volánbusz is member of several important professional organisations: "Volán Egyesülés", "Budapesti Kereskedelmi és Iparkamara", "Pest megyei Kereskedelmi és Iparkamara", " Magyar Közúti Fuvarozók Egyesülete".
