1. Supplementary intercity tickets on selected routes
To travel on services providing a higher level of service, a supplementary intercity ticket must be purchased by ticket holders and by persons entitled to free travel, except for persons under 3 years of age, war wounded, military widows and persons holding a supervision card.
Holders of a travel pass do not need to buy a supplementary intercity ticket.
The supplementary fare is not eligible for any statutory discount. The supplementary fare for the selected bus and coach services is shown in the table of fares.
2. Prices of tickets and supplementary intercity tickets
The prices of tickets and supplementary intercity tickets are established on the basis of the fare kilometres calculated on the basis of the kilometres stated in timetables.

The fares include 21.26% VAT.
*A supplementary intercity ticket must be purchased by all passengers over 3 years of age, except travel pass holders. Additional intercity tickets are indicated on the timetable notices.
The entitlement to a fare reduction must be supported by an appropriate document.
Proof of age entitlement may be provided by means of an identity card, passport, driving licence or student card.
The entitlement to other discounts must be proven by a document (card, certificate, voucher).
In the case of entitlement to fare reduction, the discount is only available on fares, not on supplementary fares for designated bus and coach services. In the mobile application(s), Volánbusz Zrt. offers passengers an additional 5% discount on the price of full-fare and discounted intercity tickets and supplementary intercity tickets.
3.1. The following persons are eligible for free travel on an unlimited number of journeys:
- children until the age of 6 accompanied by an adult
- children from the age of 6 until the age of 14 (regardless of nationality),
- persons over 65 years of age from the age of 65 (regardless of nationality),
- persons in receipt of benefits (persons holding a travel voucher for people on benefits)
- blind and partially sighted persons and deaf and hard of hearing persons with a companion,
- disabled persons with a companion, long-term sick persons, persons entitled to a higher family allowance,
- war wounded and the spouse (partner) and child of a war wounded person with at least 75% invalidity living in the same household,
- the parent(s) and at least 3 children travelling with them (under the age of 18 or in full-time education up to the age of 25),
- children with special educational needs, resident or day-care receiver in a social institution, visitor of a resident care receiver
Persons entitled to travel free of charge must buy a supplementary intercity ticket on services requiring a supplementary ticket, except for persons under 3 years of age, war wounded persons and military widows and persons holding a supervision card.
3.2. The following persons are eligible for free travel on a limited number of journeys or on a specific route:
- refugees and asylum-seekers, on the basis of a certificate issued by the aliens policing authority, on the route and at the time specified in the certificate
- Persons aged between 14 and 65 who are subject to the Szátv. (Act on Hungarians in neighbouring countries), holders of a Hungarian Certificate, 12 times a year
Persons entitled to travel free of charge must buy a supplementary intercity ticket on the services requiring a supplementary ticket.
3.3. The following persons are eligible for 50 % discount on tickets:
- persons between 14 and 25 years of age,
- a civil servant or civil servant in a budgetary agency or institution (entitlement subject to electronic registration)
3.4. The following persons are eligible for 90 % discount on the purchase of national and county tickets:
- pupils and students in full-time education and evening education, and students and adults trained in vocational education
4.1. County and Hungary Passes
Eligibility
The full-price County Pass and the Hungary Pass may be purchased by anyone.
Both the County Pass and the Hungary Pass are available at a 90% discount to all those who are entitled to the 90% discount under the relevant legislation and the General Terms and Conditions. There are no travel restrictions in terms of entitlement to the discount, so the County Pass and the Hungary Pass can be used for unlimited travel on any route within their validity area.

Area of validity
The area of validity of the County Pass is the administrative area of the county indicated on the pass.
The validity area of the Hungary pass is the administrative territory of Hungary.
The County Pass is valid:
- on national (intercity), regional (suburban) and suburban bus services, along the entire route
- on agglomeration services around Budapest, along the entire length of the lines (with Pest County Pass)
- within Budapest on BKK lines (metro, bus, tram, trolleybus lines)
- in Zalaegerszeg and Esztergom on local (city) bus lines. (For the county pass, the Zala county pass is accepted in Zalaegerszeg and the Komárom-Esztergom county pass in Esztergom).
- on trains of MÁV-START Zrt., GySEV Zrt. without a seat reservation (surcharge) in 2nd class;
- on the trains of MÁV-HÉV Zrt. (with a Pest county pass)
- on TramTrain services between Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely on the whole length of the line (with a Csongrád-Csanád county travel pass)
- The Szeged local combined Csongrád-Csanád county pass is accepted on local public transport (tram, trolleybus and bus) in the city of Szeged.
The Hungary pass is valid:
- on national (intercity), regional (suburban) and suburban bus services, along the entire route
- on agglomeration services around Budapest, along the entire length of the lines
- within Budapest on BKK lines (metro, bus, tram, trolleybus lines)
- in Zalaegerszeg and Esztergom on local (city) bus lines.
- on trains of MÁV-START Zrt., GySEV Zrt. in 2nd class, on trains requiring a supplementary ticket and seat reservation, subject to the payment of the surcharge and in 1st class
- on TramTrain trains between Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely on the whole length of the line
- on the services of MÁV-HÉV Zrt.
- The Szeged local combined Csongrád-Csanád country pass is accepted on local public transport (tram, trolleybus and bus) in the city of Szeged.
The County Pass and the Hungary Pass are not valid:
- on local (city) transport (except the municipalities listed above)
- The county pass cannot be used to cover part of a longer journey.
- The separate Csongrád-Csanád county travel pass is not valid on local transport in Szeged.
- The county passes are not valid in 1st class or in the premium section of MÁV-START Zrt., GySEV Zrt. or on trains with requiring a seat reservation (surcharge), even if the surcharge is paid!
Period of validity
County passes and Hungary passes can be purchased with any start date and are valid for 30 days from 0:00 on the calendar day (first day of validity) requested by the passenger and indicated on the ticket until 24:00 on the day before the same calendar day of the following month.
Number of journeys
The county pass and the Hungary pass entitle the holder to make an unlimited number of journeys within the area of validity.
Proof of eligibility
Only the rightful holder may use the County Pass and the Hungary Pass, which must be supported by a valid proof of identity (identity card, student card, passport or driving licence in card format). The number of the identity document which the passenger intends to use during the journey must be provided at the time of purchase. (In the case of a student card, the education ID or student card number must be provided).
Refund
The county and Hungary passes may be refunded only before the start of the validity period, in accordance with the conditions laid down in the General Terms and Conditions, at the service provider from whom the passenger purchased the pass.
5.1. County24 and Hungary24 day tickets
Only full fare day tickets can be purchased.

Area of validity

The Hungary24 day ticket is valid:
- on national (intercity), regional (suburban) and suburban bus services, along the entire route
- on the designated routes with a higher level of service, a supplementary ticket must be purchased!
- on agglomeration services around Budapest, along the entire length of the lines
- on trains of MÁV-START Zrt., GySEV Zrt. without a seat reservation (surcharge) in 2nd class
- the Hungary24 day ticket is also valid on trains requiring a supplementary fare and seat reservation and in 1st class, subject to payment of the surcharge
- on TramTrain trains between Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely on the whole length of the line
- on the services of MÁV-HÉV Zrt.
Day tickets are not valid on local trains (other BKK trains).
Day tickets cannot be used to cover part of a longer journey.
Period of validity
Day tickets purchased in advance may be used for an unlimited number of journeys within the territory of the county from the time specified by the passenger for a period of 24 hours.
Proof of eligibility
Only the rightful holder may use the County24 and Hungary24 day ticket, which must be supported by a valid proof of identity (identity card, student card, passport or driving licence in card format). The number of the identity document which the passenger intends to use during the journey must be provided at the time of purchase. (In the case of a student card, the education ID or student card number must be provided).
Refund
The service provider shall reimburse, at the passenger's request, the unused ticket price and baggage allowance for tickets purchased in advance and submitted for refund before the start of the journey, subject to the deduction of handling charges as laid down in the Terms and Conditions.
Transportation of hand luggage brought onto the bus or coach by the passenger is free of charge.
6.2. Parcel and baggage transport
Transportation of up to two pieces of baggage or parcels is free of charge.
A charge of HUF 500 per additional piece of luggage shall be payable per journey, regardless of the distance.
The rate includes 21.26% VAT.
The use of the bicycle transport service is subject to the advance purchase of a ticket.
Price of the bicycle ticket: HUF 500 per bicycle per journey. No discount is available on the price of the bicycle ticket.

6.4. Transport of live animals
The fee for the transport of dogs and other live animals is HUF 500, except for guide dogs, assistance dogs for the disabled and police dogs, which are transported free of charge.
The rate includes 21.26% VAT.
A passenger shall pay a penalty fare who
- travels without a ticket, with an invalid ticket or travel pass, or when using a designated bus or coach service, fails to pay the supplementary fare or attempts to travel with an invalid travel document,
- uses an invalid (e.g. expired) discount card or certificate,
- is not entitled to the travel allowance used or cannot provide the required proof of entitlement,
- travels further than the distance for which their ticket or supplementary ticket is valid, unless they voluntarily inform the driver of the fact of his onward journey before the first ticket check and purchases the ticket for the difference in distance,
- uses a forged ticket or other means of identification entitling them to travel,
- gives a named ticket, travel pass or other identity document or certificate entitling the holder to travel or to a discount to an unauthorised person for use in their name or uses such documents in the name of another person,
- obstructs ticket control or requires the use of official procedures because of the concealment of personal data necessary for ticket control,
- contaminates the vehicle with their luggage, clothing or in any other way,
- breaks the smoking ban and smokes in a vehicle or station area marked as non-smoking,
- infringes the conditions of transport in a manner not provided for by law, in particular by bringing into the vehicle any article or live animal which cannot be carried as hand luggage.
Amount of the penalty fare
- HUF 12 000 on the spot or paid within 3 working days
- HUF 25 000 if paid after 3 working days
- A penalty fare of HUF 50 000 shall be payable by any passenger who fails to make the specified payment within 30 days.
Instead of the penalty fare, a presentation fee of HUF 2,500 shall be payable by a passenger who, at the time of travel, holds a ticket, travel pass purchased in advance or other travel document or certificate entitling them to a discount, etc., but is unable to produce it at the time of inspection during the journey, provided that they present it subsequently, within 15 days of the date of travel, in the manner and at the place prescribed by the service provider. Even in the case of a presentation fee, the unpaid fare must also be paid.
The passenger transport service provider shall reimburse the ticket price and the luggage fare paid in advance and returned before the start of the journey, but shall deduct handling charges.
The service provider shall charge 20% of the ticket price, rounded up to HUF 5 according to the general rules of rounding, for any change or refund.

Pre-purchased bicycle tickets cannot be changed or refunded, even if the passenger's ticket has been refunded!
No handling charge will be deducted and subsequent refund is allowed if the passenger has not used the ticket due to the lack of a bus service, lack of seats or cancelled the journey due to traffic congestion. The cancellation of the bus or coach service, the lack of seats or the disruption of traffic shall be certified upon the passenger’s request by the staff of the bus or coach service concerned or the station on the back of the unused ticket or on a separate certificate.
Refund of a full or reduced-price intercity ticket purchased in advance (cash desk, vending machine)
Refunds shall be made according to the above rules
- For intercity tickets, issued for a specific service, with departure and arrival times, only requests made before the departure time will be accepted
- For tickets purchased online the refund shall be requested before the expiry date
- For intercity (suburban, regional, express) tickets before the validity period indicated on the ticket.
In the case of local tickets, unused unprocessed tickets may be refunded, with the deduction of a handling charge.
Local half-monthly and monthly travel passes:
- the price of the monthly and half-monthly travel pass, if the request is submitted by 24.00 on the day before the start of validity,
- half the price of a monthly pass if it is submitted for refund before 24.00 on the 15th day of the month in question.
- if the municipal price regulation specifies a different period of validity and publishes it in its ordinance, the local travel pass may be refunded up to the date specified in the municipal ordinance.
