INTERNATIONAL TRAVELLING CONDITIONS (International regulations)
Valid from 20/12/2012
Definition of terms applied in the travelling conditions:
Boarding pass
A pass issued by the international ticket office at VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt's Népliget coach station after checking the relevant travel coupon of the ticket, authorising the passenger to board the coach, stating the services destination, the number of the bus stand and the number of the seat chosen by the passenger. The boarding pass is withdrawn by the bus staff before departure of the coach.
Check-in procedure
The process of checking in passengers of international services, in the course of which passengers are given their boarding passes once their relevant travel coupons have been checked, and are allowed to choose their seats. Passengers can start boarding the coach upon completing the check-in procedure.
Luggage subject to prior authorisation
Luggage (such as bicycles, large musical instruments, oversized baggage, excess baggage) the carrying of which is subject to written claim from the passenger made at the time and place of ticket purchase or, in the case of on-line purchase, at info@volanbusz.hu. This luggage can only be carried with prior consent of VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. and only on the Budapest-Vienna service. VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. will charge an extra fee for carrying luggage subject to prior authorisation the amount of which is included in the present travel conditions. VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. has the right to refuse to transport this luggage.
In case the passenger tries to make carry this luggage without prior claim and obtaining consent of VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt., VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. has the right to refuse to transport it and assumes no liability for any damage or delay resulting from this action.
Reservation fee
The amount charged by VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. or the domestic or foreign travel agency that has concluded a contract with VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. or by some other foreign partner in exchange for the closure of the Open ticket as requested by the passenger (reserving a seat) in the way and the amount specified in the terms and conditions applying to modifying and to returning tickets.
Substantially damaged ticket
A ticket or voucher from which the person having the right to travel, the route or the date of travelling cannot be clearly identified as a consequence of physical damage.
Discounts
Discounts published on the webpage of VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt., under the terms and conditions of use detailed there. VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. reserves the right to limit the availability of some discounts for example in timetable publishing period, in high season, etc.
Hand luggage
Luggage that can easily be carried by a single person, not exceeding 10 kg and of common dimensions, which the passenger takes along into the passenger compartment of the coach and which is not excluded from the range of objects that can be carried in a coach. A passenger may not carry more than one piece of hand luggage.
Traffic plan
The charter services for which vouchers are required are detailed in the traffic plan.
Fare
The sum paid for the ticket comprising:
· the basic fare
· any discount that the passenger may be eligible for
· any surcharge payable by the passenger.
Ticket
A document of evidentiary force - of a legal instrument type - attesting the conclusion of the passenger transport contract and the fact that the passenger or the person purchasing the ticket has paid its price. The following are comprised in the concept of a “ticket”:
· paper-based ticket purchased from the driver of the international coach service,
· ticket bought personally at the international ticket office in Népliget coach station,
· ticket bought from domestic or international partner agencies having contracts with VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt (A-ticket)
· ticket purchased on-line and taken over at the ticket office, or
· purchased by mobile phone and taken over at the ticket office
· electronic ticket (E-ticket).
A journey can be started only in possession of a ticket.
Ticket purchased from the driver of the international coach service
A one-way ticket, valid only for the given journey and route for which the ticket is purchased from the coach driver. One exception to this rule is the international service between Budapest and Vienna where it is possible to purchase a return ticket for the section between Vienna (Schwechat) airport and Budapest (Győr), from the coach driver. In this case only Open tickets may be purchased for the section between Budapest (Győr) and Vienna airport, for which seat reservation must be made in the international ticket office of the Népliget coach station in Budapest or at any of the partner travel agencies having contracts with VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt.
Paper-based ticket purchased personally
Ticket released at VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt.’s certain coach stations and service units, domestic travel agencies having contracts with VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. or foreign partner agencies having contracts with VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt., comprising its relevant travel coupons in a ticket envelope.
Ticket purchased on-line and taken over at the ticket office (in case of Open tickets, without date)
Having purchased the Open international ticket on VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt's webpage, the order identification code sent by VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. in proof of the purchase displayed on the webpage certifies the conclusion and the contents of the contract concluded between VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. and the passenger, until the paper-based ticket is made out at VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt's international ticket office at the Népliget coach station or having booked on the webpage of VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. No right to travel accrues from possessing the identification code: such right is obtained by taking out the paper-based ticket or by booking on-line.
Before the journey, the passenger or his/her representative is required to take out his/her ticket at the Népliget international ticket office during its opening time, or book on-line. In addition to presenting a document in proof of personal identification (e.g. passport, personal identity card) and any documents in proof of entitlement to any discount to be used by the passenger (e.g. student card) the passenger must also give the identification code in order to have the paper-based ticket made out. To be able to book on-line the ticket number and booking reference are necessary. If the passenger has received no confirmation e-mail message due to system failure, but it is possible to clearly establish the fact that the ticket purchase transaction was completed, the international ticket office of the Népliget coach station will make out the ticket for the passenger, provided he/she can adequately prove his/her personal identity.
Electronic ticket (E-ticket)
Ticket purchased on the webpage of VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt., printed by the passenger, the relevant travel coupons of which authorise the passenger to travel on the international service specified in the ticket. The conclusion of the contract between VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. and the passenger as well as the contents of the contract is certified by the electronic voucher (E-ticket) sent to the passenger in the form of an attachment to the e-mail message concerning the conclusion of the transaction. Both the e-mail message and the ticket sent to the customer as an attachment to the e-mail message must be preserved in an electronic form as well, during the entire period of effectiveness, on a mandatory basis.
Paper-based ticket purchased by mobile phone
Between the time of purchasing the international ticket on the web or wap page of VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. and the release of the paper-based ticket at the international ticket office of the Népliget coach station in Budapest, the order identification code sent by T-Mobile in a text (SMS) message to the relevant telephone number as displayed on the information page certifies the conclusion and the contents of the contract between VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. and the passenger. Possession of the order identification code does not give rise to a right to travel: such right is acquired by taking out the paper based ticket. The paper based ticket must be taken out by the passenger or his/her representative before the journey at the international ticket office of the Népliget coach station, during its opening time. In addition to presenting a document in proof of personal identification (e.g. passport, personal identity card) and any documents in proof of entitlement to any discount to be used by the passenger (e.g. student card), the passenger must also give the identification code in order to have the paper-based ticket made out. If the passenger has received no confirmation text message due to system failure or because his/her post box was full, but it is possible to clearly establish the fact that the ticket purchase transaction was completed, the international ticket office of the Népliget coach station will make out the ticket for the passenger, provided he/she can adequately prove his/her personal identity.
Invoice about this ticket will be issued by T-Mobile.
Timetable
Timing and routes of international scheduled services are published in the timetable.
Timetable period
VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. applies two different - winter and summer - periods. Winter period: between the 1rst of November of one year and the 31rst of March of the next year. Summer period: between the 1rst of April and the 31rst of October of a given year.
Modification fee and return fee
The amount charged by VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. or the domestic or foreign travel agency that has concluded a contract with it, as a result of the modification or returning of a ticket for reasons for which the passenger is responsible, in the way and amount/rate specified in the terms and conditions applying to modifying or returning tickets.
Open ticket
A ticket during the period of validity of which the date of the journey in either or both directions of the route concerned is not pre-determined.
The passenger is required to reserve a seat on the basis of an Open ticket at the ticket office or on the webpage of VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. (under construction) serving the area of departure, for which a reservation fee is charged. Reserving a seat on the basis of an Open ticket should be carried out at least 4-5 days before the date of departure. From the time of reserving a seat the ticket concerned qualifies as a ticket that is valid for a specific date. Such a ticket can be turned back into an Open ticket again in the international ticket office, for which a modification fee will be charged. In the case of booking of Open tickets via the webpage of VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt., additional costs (for ex. supplements) may occur.
Surcharges
Any of the surcharges listed on VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt's webpage, applied subject to the terms and conditions specified there
Order identification code
Series of data (alphabetical characters and digits) used for the purpose of identification, displayed on the screen at the end of the transaction procedure, including the purchase confirmation e-mail message automatically sent by VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. or the confirmation text message (SMS) automatically sent to the customer by T-Mobile.
Voucher
A document of evidentiary force - of a legal instrument type - issued for charter services operated by VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. for which vouchers are required, attesting the conclusion of the passenger transport contract and the fact that the passenger or the person purchasing the ticket has paid its price. A voucher can only be issued for a specific date, only for two-way journeys starting at the bus stops specified in the traffic plan. Vouchers can only be purchased for citizens of the European Union and Croatia having their passports. A voucher may appear in any of the following forms:
· a paper-based voucher purchased personally at a ticket office, or
· one purchased on-line and taken over at the ticket office, or
· an electronic voucher.
A passenger can start his journey only in possession of his voucher.
Paper-based voucher purchased personally
Voucher released at VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt’s certain coach stations and service units or at domestic travel agencies having contracts with VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt., comprising its relevant travel coupons along with the relevant information.
Electronic voucher (E-ticket)
Voucher purchased on the webpage of VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt., printed by the passenger, the relevant travel coupons of which authorise the passenger to take the charter service with vouchers specified in the ticket. The conclusion of the contract between VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. and the passenger as well as the contents of the contract is certified by the electronic voucher sent to the passenger in the form of an attachment to the e-mail message concerning the conclusion of the transaction. Both the e-mail message and the voucher sent to the customer as an attachment to the e-mail message must be preserved in an electronic form as well, during the entire period of effectiveness, on a mandatory basis.
Passenger
The individual whose name is stated in the international ticket or voucher in exchange for the payment of the fare; in the case of an on-line ticket purchase transaction the person stated as passenger. In the case of a ticket purchase transaction concluded by mobile phone the individual specified and written on the ticket when the ticket is taken over from the ticket office.

1. General rules
1.1. Travelling Conditions
The provisions laid down in the Travelling Conditions constitute an integral part of the contract concluded between VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. and its passengers.
Any provision laid down in these Travelling Conditions that is contrary to any piece of legislation in place is to be considered to be null and void: in such cases the provisions of the relevant piece of legislation must be observed.
By purchasing their tickets, passengers accept the Travelling Conditions.
If the purchaser is not the passenger, or acts on the behalf of other passengers as well, VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. considers that his/her statements and consents are made in the name of and with the consent of the passenger(s) concerned.
1.2. Scope
The Travelling Conditions apply to the services of international scheduled passenger transport as well as to passenger transport by way of charter services where vouchers are required, operated by VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. Lines or services operated by VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt's international partners may be subject to different travelling conditions. If VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. makes out a ticket for a journey that is a service provided with the involvement of some other operator as well, the terms and conditions laid down in these Travelling Conditions apply only to the particular section of the journey that is operated by VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. Exceptions to this include provisions concerning the modification or returning of tickets, applying regardless of the identity of the operator.
VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. proposes that at the time of purchasing their tickets passengers should enquire about the operator running the given service or check information on the operator on their ticket.
1.3. The right to travel
The regulations applying to travelling abroad as well as the procedures relating to travel documents are laid down in Act XII of 1998.
Only persons not excluded from travelling, holding valid tickets and travel documents, meeting the requirements laid down in the laws and regulations of the states covered by the trip along with their criteria for entering their respective territories may travel on coaches in international transport services.
Passengers may participate in such journeys only in possession with the required ticket, voucher or the ’travel coupons’ of the e- or a-ticket that are valid in relation to the given route, or a ticket made out by the driver of the coach concerned, which is withdrawn by the bus staff in the course of the journey.
1.4. Passengers' obligations
In case of errors occurring when purchasing their tickets personally, passengers are requested to point out these errors to the employee selling the ticket.
If the ticket contains errors and the passenger signals it immediately the ticket will be modified on the spot without any handling fee being charged.
If errors are pointed out later, the ticket can only be modified or refunded according to the contents of the travelling conditions.
VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. assumes no liability for any damage caused by the passenger’s failure to meet these requirements.
If the passenger fails to fulfil these obligations and this creates payment obligations (fine, penalty) to VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt., VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. has the right to devolve this cost on the passenger.
If the passenger fails to demand medical opinion or to follow medical advice, VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. assumes no liability for any accident, health injury or death resulting from this omission during the journey.
A journey can be started only in possession of a valid ticket.
A passenger is authorised to travel by the ticket’s ’travel coupons’ applying to the given journey, which are withdrawn upon boarding by the bus staff.
A passenger without a ticket is not entitled to travel even if his/her name is included in the list of passengers.
If such is the case, VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. can prevent the passenger from getting on the coach or make him/her get off. Right to travel can only be obtained by purchasing a new ticket (from the coach driver, in the international ticket office or by partner offices).
The staff of the coach run by VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. or by some other operator may, before departure, check the presence and validity of the travel documents and (if necessary) visas, in the interest of both the passenger and the operator.
If a passenger fails to prove his identity by means of identity papers suitable for travelling, VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. or the service operator can refuse to transport him/her.
In case the passenger cannot show the card justifying discount when requested, he/she must pay the difference between the purchased ticket and full fare.
If so required by laws of the concerned countries, passengers are obliged to be present when representatives of customs authorities or other officials examine their luggage.
VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. assumes no liability for any damage resulting from these controls or from opposition to these controls.
VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. has the right to invalidate tickets of passengers failing to satisfy this condition, free the corresponding seats and sell them. Tickets thus becoming invalid cannot be modified or refunded.
If check-in is required, it is advised to be present at the coach station 60 minutes before departure. In case there is no check-in, it is recommended to be present 30 minutes before departure.
It is recommended to do this at least 4-10 days, but at the latest 1 day - depending on the destination - before the planned departure. Passengers who have failed to do so can board the coach only if there are vacant seats left, after the boarding of passengers who had booked their seats.
Furthermore, passengers are required to return to the bus at the time specified by the staff at any previously arranged stop and stops announced for a break.
1.5. Travel documents, data handling
Travel documents
For travelling abroad you need a valid travel document.
The passenger alone is responsible for the validity and existence of the travel documents: VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. bears no responsibility for these whatsoever. VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. recommends that passengers get informed on relevant regulations applying in the states covered by the journey, from official sources.
Data handling
Simultaneously with purchasing the ticket the passenger acknowledges that he/she provides certain personal data (in particular name, address, phone number, e-mail address, number of travel document, date of birth) to VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. for the purpose of purchasing the ticket and for accessing other services (e.g. fare discount, travel insurance) and expressly consents to processing these data for the purpose of accomplishing the relevant goals. VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. may hand over passenger data to authorities when requested.
Passengers/purchasers have responsibility to make sure that phone numbers provided for the process of purchase do not contain mistakes and include country and city codes.
Passengers/purchasers are responsible for making sure that e-mail addresses provided for the process of purchase do not contain mistakes, as well as for having access to that e-mail address and checking it regularly.
In case the client has provided an incorrect e-mail address or his/her inbox is full so that the ticket/invoice, information or e-mail cannot be delivered, VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. will not compensate for the ticket nor take responsibility for any damage occurred.
VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. is authorised to request only passenger data that are required for the performance of the services and discounts and must handle them in observance of the provisions laid down in the act on data protection. No data - except for the above mentioned cases - will be provided for third parties.
Passengers' contact data - especially phone number - are required so that VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. can inform them, if needed, about any unexpected change in the bus timetable as soon as possible. In case a passenger refuses to provide his/her phone number or provides an erroneous phone number, or he/she cannot be reached at the given number as a consequence of which our efforts to notify him/her fail, VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. assumes no liability for any loss or damage resulting from the relevant extraordinary changes in relation to the journey concerned.
1.6. Ticket
General rules
International tickets and vouchers certify - unless otherwise proven - the establishment and contents of the contract between VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. and the passenger.
Data indicated on the ticket for the purpose of travelling are applied
of our company.
The contract is concluded upon the payment of the full amount of the fare and upon the passenger’s taking possession of the ticket.
Fares published in Hungary may differ from those advertised by foreign partners. Tickets can be purchased in HUF at certain coach stations and service units of VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. as well as in domestic travel agencies that have concluded contracts with VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt., in HUF, euros or local currencies at foreign partner offices that have concluded contracts with VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. and from the coach driver.
VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. sells tickets in advance for direct and non-direct services as well as for services not departing from Hungary. VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. advises passengers to check the type of the service when purchasing a ticket (direct / non-direct?). In extraordinary cases or for reasons of traffic organization VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. or its partner reserves the right to get passengers to their final destination by a non-direct service or one departing from outside Hungary even if passengers purchased their tickets for a direct service. In such cases coach drivers or other members of the staff will provide adequate help in managing the transfer.
Tickets for international scheduled lines can be purchased personally or on-line, as well as, for certain destinations, by mobile phone. Most tickets are to be purchased in advance; in case of some lines they can also be bought directly before departure, provided there are free seats left. Return tickets are exclusively to be purchased in advance (except for trips between Schwechat and Hungary, where return tickets can also be bought on board).
International tickets of VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. (Eurolines Hungary) include accident and luggage insurance. Details can be checked on the homepage of VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt.
Using the ticket
Tickets are registered to the name of the passenger and cannot be transferred to another person.
Validity of tickets
Tickets are only valid for the route and time period for which they have been issued.
As a general rule, an Open ticket is valid for a period of 180 days from the date of its issue. Exceptions to this rule are the following:
The journey must be started not later than on the last day of its validity period.
A purchased ticket is valid between the two stations specified on it. In case of a stopover tickets lose their validity for the rest of the journey. A travel coupon valid for a specific route also becomes invalid if the passenger has not used it by the time of the end of its validity period (expired ticket) or if the passenger intends to start the journey at some interim or other stop instead of the boarding place stated on the ticket.
Tickets also lose their validity in the following cases:
Paper-based tickets purchased personally, tickets purchased on-line or via mobile phone and picked up at a ticket office, as well as E and A-tickets lost, stolen or destroyed will not be replaced by VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. In order for the journey to take place the purchase of a new ticket is necessary.
Guaranteed seat
A pre-purchased ticket guarantees a seat on the service for which the ticket is valid, thereby Volánbusz Zrt. is under an obligation to transport every passenger having a valid ticket - on the service to which the ticket applies - on one of the seats of the coach. On international lines all passengers are seated.
Check-in
A check-in system is in place at the international ticket office of the Népliget coach station for the following lines:
Passengers should arrive for check-in at least 15 and maximum 60 minutes before departure at the international ticket office. Check-in closes 10 minutes before departure. Passengers arriving after the closure of the check-in process can go directly to the coach and can board the vehicle only after all checked-in passengers have boarded, to take seats remaining at this point. In certain countries the date of the return trip has to be confirmed at one of the relevant partner offices even if the return trip’s date is written on the ticket. Please ask for information about conditions and requirements applying in the country concerned. Different countries may apply different check-in procedures.
Guaranteed seats in case of Open tickets
If there are no available seats the company is not obliged to transport passengers with Open tickets. If passengers cannot start their return journey until the expiration date because VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. or the operator
VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. will extend the validity of the ticket until the first or second next service with an available seat.
1.7. Luggage policy
On scheduled international services as well as on charter services for which vouchers are required, passengers travelling on the coach can request the carrying of his/her hand luggage and stowed luggage in accordance with the rules laid down in the terms and conditions of travelling.
Free of charge
On coaches run by VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. the transport of 1 piece of hand luggage and 2 pieces of stowed luggage (not exceeding the weight of 20 kg and the size of 80x80x25 cm each) is free of charge. In services operated by foreign partner companies different terms and conditions may apply to luggage carrying.
Extra luggage
Depending on the capacity of the luggage compartment, another (third) extra charged piece of luggage can be transported (except for services to Paris, London and Rotterdam). Charged fee is 2,000 HUF/piece (8 euros), on the Budapest-Varna and Budapest-Hamburg lines 7,000 HUF/piece (25 euros). An extra fee of 2,000 HUF (8 euros) is charged for luggage exceeding the 20 kg weight limit or the 80x80x25 cm size limit.
Prohibited contents
Items matching any of the following descriptions cannot be carried by coach:
Transport conditions for hand luggage
No objects likely to cause inconvenience to passengers can be carried as hand luggage. Passengers are required to place their hand luggage - when it is not held in hands or on lap - in a way that does not cause inconvenience to other passengers, endanger their physical safety nor causes damage to the vehicle. VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. may refuse to transport objects as hand luggage which may cause inconvenience to passengers, damage or soil the vehicle. It is passengers’ responsibility to look after their hand luggage.
Special conditions applying to certain types of hand luggage:
Passengers carrying on board objects which are not permitted to be transported as hand luggage - independently of other legal consequences - will be held responsible for the damages resulting from breaking the rules. VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. has the right to check the hand luggage in the presence of its owner in case of reasonable suspicion that an item that should not be carried as hand luggage has been taken on board.
Transport conditions for stowed luggage
Passengers may carry 2 pieces of stowed luggage free of charge. Depending on traffic conditions and room on board, carrying of an additional piece of stowed luggage can be requested for an extra fee. This extra fee is to be paid to the driver when handing over the luggage. Stowed luggage can be objects properly packed into suitcases, backpacks, handbags, small cases, boxes or in any other adequate manner, the total value of each piece not exceeding 100,000 HUF.
Stowed luggage must not contain jewellery, precious metals, works of art, stamps, collections, cash, alternative means of payment (bank cards, credit cards, voucher for a certain service etc.), securities, tickets, passes, documents, precious furs or any objects or accessories of an original value (by the time of purchase) exceeding 100,000 HUF.
Objects the transport of which is prohibited by law or orders of competent authorities or which cannot be put in the place specified for this purpose in the coach (because of their size or weight) cannot be transported as stowed luggage.
VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. (and the person appointed for handling luggage) may refuse to transport as stowed luggage objects that are likely to damage or soil the vehicle or other luggage. A passenger may post luggage only on the coach on which he/she is travelling and to the destination where he/she will end his/her journey. The ticket valid until the final destination must be presented when checking in the luggage. VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. gives a luggage receipt to the passenger in acknowledgement of taking over the stowed luggage, which the passenger must keep until the end of the journey.
Stowed luggage must be handed over to the coach driver not later than 15 minutes before departure, or while the coach is at the bus stop at intermediate stops. VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. will point out any externally visible damage or defect in the stowed luggage or its packaging, or the lack of packaging to the passenger and will mark this on the luggage receipt. If the passenger accepts the luggage receipt, he/she thereby acknowledges the state of the stowed luggage or its packaging as stated in the luggage receipt and cannot claim any compensation from VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. regarding such deficiency or damage to the stowed luggage.
VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. releases the passenger's stowed luggage - after the arrival of the coach in which it had to be carried - upon the passenger's showing the luggage receipt and upon payment of any outstanding charge payable by the passenger. VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. hands over the stowed luggage to the person presenting the luggage receipt without checking whether such person is entitled to take over the luggage. VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. refuses any responsibility related to this matter. VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. will not hand over luggage without obtaining the luggage receipt except the person asking for delivery identifies himself in an adequate way and signs a take-over receipt. The take-over receipt must include the name, exact postal address, phone number and personal ID number of the recipient, the number of the lost luggage receipt, a detailed list of all the contents of the luggage and the signature of the recipient.
Luggage left in international coaches that have not been taken over by passengers, will be returned by VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. to the Budapest Népliget coach station where they will be kept for 90 days in accordance with the regulations on responsible safekeeping laid down in the Hungarian Civil Code.
Conditions different from the above may be applied in services operated by foreign partner companies.
Carrying animals
Animals can exclusively be transported on the Budapest-Wien and Budapest-Subotica lines. Only animals of small size can be transported the dimensions of which (together with carrying device) do not exceed those of hand luggage. The passenger must, in all cases, provide for a suitable box or cage for the animal and for the required documents, VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. assumes no responsibility in this respect. Animals can only be transported in the passenger compartment, for a 50 % one-way fare. There is no return discount in case of animals and tickets cannot be purchased via mobile phone.
VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. is entitled to determine the maximum number of transported animals on board of a given line. Size and weight limitations do not apply for guide dogs for the blind and the deaf.
1.8. Code of conduct
If a passenger on board
VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. will be entitled to take all actions considered to be necessary for preventing or stopping such behaviour (including those limiting personal liberties). The driver is authorized to ask for the intervention of the police. The passenger is obliged to compensate for all the damage and costs caused by such conduct to VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. reserves the right to enforce such claims in court.
1.9. Exclusion from travelling
Persons having infectious diseases must not travel on board.
Persons meeting any of the following criteria may be excluded from travelling:
Passengers smoking in spite of prohibition are liable for any damage caused by this action.
Tickets of passengers excluded from travelling cannot be modified nor refunded.
1.10. Passengers needing special care
Persons in need of special care can travel only at their own responsibility; VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. assumes no responsibility or liability for any worsening in their state of health.
Handicapped people or people with special needs intending to travel on coaches must signal, when purchasing the ticket, if they are in need of any special care on account of motoric or any other disability. If the degree of their dependence on such assistance requires, such passengers can only travel accompanied by a suitable person.
Persons accompanying passengers in need of special care must also purchase tickets.
Infants below the age of 2 can travel on coaches in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Highway Code (KRESZ). One adult may carry only one infant.
Children under 16 can travel on international coaches in accompaniment of an adult person only.
In case the adult person is not the legal representative as well a declaration in 2 languages (Hungarian and at least English) is necessary in order to authorise the accompanist to attend to the child. The declaration is needed in at least 2 copies under the whole duration of travel.
It is suggested to have the filled in declaration in the case as well if the child is accompanied by one of the legal representatives only.
We'd like to turn your attention that a common declaration is not existing which is accepted by the authorities. The declaration downloadable from here serves as a sample only.
1.11. Crossing borders and checks abroad
Passengers themselves must provide for the documents required for border crossing (passport, visa) and for the customs clearance and other administrative procedures relating to their hand luggage and stowed luggage. If the passenger's passport or customs check takes much longer than usual, in the interest of the other passengers of the coach (with a view to catching other lines, reserving accommodation etc.) the operator is forced to leave the passenger at the border station or at the control point and to have the coach carry on with the journey. In this case the passenger has to arrange - at his/her own expense - for continuing his/her journey and the price of the ticket will not be refunded either. If the border control authorities refuse to permit the passenger to enter the country as a consequence of which the passenger has to be carried back, the costs of this may be charged by VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. to the passenger and the price paid by the passenger for the original ticket will not be refunded by VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt.
1.12. Liability for damage
General rules
VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt's liability covers all damage caused in relation to passenger transport by its employees or by persons it has commissioned acting in the framework of their jobs.
VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. will be fully or partly released from his liability towards a claimant if it can prove that the damage was caused by or contributed to by the negligence or other unlawful conduct of the person claiming damages. This release clause applies to all provisions pertaining to liability relating to the injury or death of passengers or to passengers or their luggage being late or to damage or loss occurring in the course of luggage transport.
