Ópusztaszer
There is a settlement in Csongrád
county, Ópusztaszer, where we can
find the open-air National Historical
Memorial Park, an outdoor village
museum and an excursion site, all
in one. In the round-shaped buil-
ding (called Rotunda) we can view
the world-famous, 120 meters
long and 15 meters tall Feszty
Panorama (or Feszty Cyclorama)
that commemorates the arrival of the
Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin
in 895. The work started in 1892,
and it took two years for the painter
to finish it. We can also view the
World’s Panoramas (Világ körképei), the Promenade (Promenád) and the
Park Historical Exhibition (Parktörténeti kiállítás) here. Outside an open air
village museum has been established, that awaits visitors with 19 buildings
and three outdoor exhibitions.

Visegrád
One of Hungary’s smallest and oldest
town lies in the picturesque Danube
Bend, only 30 kilometres from the
capital. It was already a lively cent-
re as early as the bronze age, but it
reached its cultural glory during the
Anjou kings’ reign. Between 1338
and 1408 Visegrád was the official
royal seat of Hungary, and during King
Mathias’s time it became the centre
of the whole European Renaissance.
The town is a historical relic, its
architectural heritage is invaluable.
Apart from visiting the town, we can visit the winter-summer bobsleigh run,
located only a few bends from the Castle of Visegrád, or may choose from
the numerous excursion routes nearby.

Heroes’ Square (Hősök tere), Budapest
The square lying at the end of And-
rássy street gained its present look
at around 2000, commemorating the
1000th anniversary of the Hungarians’
arrival in the Carpathian Basin. The
huge space’s three main components
are the Palace of Art (Műcsarnok),
built in 1896, the Museum of Fine Arts
(Szépművészeti Múzeum), opened to
the public in December, 1906, and the
Millennium Monument, that visually
connects the previous two. On the 36 metres high central column of the Mil-
lennium Monument archangel Gabriel holds the holy crown and the apostles’
double cross. The monument mirrors eclectic style, and forms a semi-circle.
In the left and the right porticos we can view the bronze statues of seven-
seven famous characters from Hungary’s past. The Heroes’ Square is not
only one of Budapest’s symbols today, but also one of the most frequented
touristic sights in the capital.
